Application Note: Alternative image-based technique for phytoplankton cell counts in shellfish aquaculture

Experiments in summer 2018 required daily algae counts to calculate a continuous and accurate diet for rearing juvenile geoduck (Panopea generosa). This app note was written for the Nexcelom Cellometer, an instrument that uses bright-field images to count cells - I used the Cellometer to count large algae batch cultures daily for a continuous mixed-algae diet. To the best of my knowledge, this was the first use of the Cellometer was in a sustainable shellfish hatchery.
